More About ECH Sponsorship Program

Traces of Love – First-generation alumnus, Ms. Polly Wong

Back in the 1970s, a caring ‘big sister’ joined the Evangel Children’s Home (ECH), carrying with her the spirit of family love to nurture the younger ones. On the occasion of ECH’s 70th anniversary, she returned ECH with her newly ordained daughter to visit her ‘younger brothers and sisters.’ Through their artistic creations, they also lend a helping hand to raise funds for the home’s improvement projects, continuing the legacy of love and care.

Polly entered Evangel Children’s Home at the age of one. Then she left the home at 16 and lived with her remarried mother and step-sisters. But she never felt at ease in that unfamiliar household, so she worked hard to earn her own living, determined to fight for her future through her own efforts. Later, she married and moved to the UK, beginning a new chapter in her life.  Grateful for the care she received in her childhood at the Home, she now teaches Chinese painting to fellow Chinese who have settled in the UK. In her leisure time, she paints landscapes and dedicates the income from her artwork to give back to her beloved Home (ECH) – expressing her remembrance and support for the next generations with every stroke of her brush. She deeply understands that young people without family’s support often feel lost when facing life’s challenges. Therefore, she frequently donates to support the “2nd Chance in Life–Transitional Youth Sponsorship” Program at ECH.

May Love Be Passed On

On 15th November, 2025, the day of the global alumni reunion event, Polly returned home to celebrate ECH’s 70th anniversary. In an interview, she expressed gratitude to Miss Ruth Sundquist (ECH founder), for raising her, and to the supporters who donated and nurtured her at the ECH, where some children even had the opportunity to study abroad. Thinking back to her childhood, she remembered the joy of visitors coming and treating them with ice cream, it’s moments of pure happiness. With all her heart, she hopes that this generation of children will experience the same love and grow up with wonderful memories.

At the Global Alumni Homecoming Reunion Dinner, the first-generation of alumni (including Polly) came together to sponsor the ‘1-to-1 Program’.  Each alumnus invited a current resident child to share the evening, symbolizing the passing on of family love. They hope the children will have happy memories and learn to be grateful as they grow up, so that love can be passed on

Polly’s s daughter, Sissie Wong, has walked with the Lord for 25 years. From her young age, she felt the heavenly calling to dedicate her life to service—beginning in pastoral ministry, then missionary work. In time, God led her back to the UK, where she faithfully served in the church for more than a decade. In September 2025, she was ordained, officially becoming a pastor. Sissie is deeply convinced that her journey of faith has been upheld by the prayers of her mother and Auntie Ruth (Miss Ruth Sundquist—whom she lovingly calls a ‘Woman of God’), whose faithful intercession over the years has covered her and the next generation of ECH alumni.

On the day of the event, she returned with her mother to visit ECH, the place she calls God’s blessed family and home. Seeing the children there today filled her heart with gratitude. Her prayer is that God’s love will continue to be passed down through ECH, from generation to generation.

Evangel Children’s Home – a place that nurtured her growth and blesses future generations. May the children and youth of ECH grow up well and live out a brighter life.
