Build a Dream Home for Children
A Safe and Therapeutic Home!

Evangel Children’s Home Main Building is over 60 years old, with aging building and dilapidation problems. The interior layout of hostels can no longer meet the service needs of the new era, making it imperative to carry out construction and major interior renovations on the original site! In addition to addressing safety hazards, the project will incorporate the concept of “Trauma-informed Care” services, creating spaces and upgrading facilities to provide vulnerable children with a safe and healing home that meets their needs and nurtures their future!

The Project Objectives

  • To improve the living environment for residential home care services beneficiaries (children aged 6-18), meeting their needs for safety and functional needs of daily life.
  • To create a home in where the safety, comfort, emotional security and therapeutic purposes of the beneficiaries are secured, helping them grow holistically.

Age-specific Design in Different Floors

Children aged 6-12, teenagers aged 11-16, youth aged 15-18

  • Primary school residents need more leisure/group living space
  • Secondary school residents need more privacy and study space

“Trauma-informed Care”Design Reimagining a Home healing Body, Mind, Soul and Connect

Create a home that heals the body and mind, nourishes the soul, and fosters a sense of belonging through the incorporation of "Trauma-informed Care" service concept to the design, bringing about positive change for vulnerable children.

BODY (HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT) – EROGNOMIC SAFETY & PHYSICAL WELLBEING

  • Ergonomic study station and furniture suitable for different age groups.
  • Hygienic, uplifting washrooms & kitchen, address insufficient space.
  • Double rooms for secondary school students.
  • Isolation Room to prevent the spreading of disease.
  • Securely locked electronic charging cabinets and medication storage cabinets.
  • Applying natural lighting and north-south cross-ventilation.

MIND (PEACEFUL ENVIRONMENT) – EMOTIONAL SAFETY & TRAUMA RECOVERY

Children who have experienced trauma often exhibit a state of alertness and are prone to emotional outbursts.

  • “Comfort Zone” will be provided for instant retreat to self-regulate and be alone for the children with emotional or behavioral problems.
  • “Bed Pod” that enhance privacy will replace hazardous bunk bed ladders and open upper decks. Each sleeping nook gives every child a peaceful, comfortable sleeping sanctuary.
  • Add leisure and play areas for primary school residents.
  • Worry-free, personalized furniture arrangement.

SOCIAL (FLEXIBLE COMMUNITY) – SOCIAL CONNECTION & BELONGING

  • Home-Themed Living & Dining Areas: with moving partitions allow the space to be flexibly reconfigured.
  • Comfortable social and recreational area will facilitate social interaction.
  • Youth Unit: ccultivates transitional self-reliance skills
  • Repair the uneven basketball court and upgrade the facilities.

SPIRIT – SPIRITUAL GROWTH, BELONGING & RECOGNITION

  • “Mindful Room” creates a space for the soul, cultivate habits of quiet reflection and contemplation in children, and heal emotions.
  • “Thankful Wall” to showcase children work, helps to shift the focus from a “victim identity” to their personal strengths and positive actions.
  • Mutli-functional space: gathering place for spiritual growth, fostering positive thinking.
