ECH 70th Anniversary | Thanksgiving Worship Service

Evangel Children’s Home 70th Anniversary Thanksgiving Worship Service was held on July 4th at E.F.C.C. – Kong Fook Church. Nearly 400 people gathered to witness the abundance of the Lord’s grace. Church partners and supporters, along with all the children, alumni and staff joined together to praise the Lord. The messages and testimonies shared were deeply moving. Following the worship, a new logo launch ceremony was held, unveiling the brand-new logo icons for Evangel Children’s Home as we step into a new chapter together.

Officiating guests included Rev. Dr. John Tran, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Evangelical Free Church of China, and Rev. Dr. Peter Lam, Senior Pastor of E.F.C.C. – Kong Fook Church. Rev. Chan’s sermon led everyone to reflect on the meaning of “Let the little children come to me.” The testimony from guest speaker Ms. Ma, Preacher, who grew from a resident of ECH to a Preacher, was truly inspiring, showcasing the Lord’s work in her life.

We are grateful to the Lord for using Evangel Children’s Home to bless countless traumatised children over the past 70 years. We are also thankful for inspiring so many brothers and sisters in Christ to walk alongside us, work with us, and build this home together, transforming lives through love for the glory of God and the benefit of others.

Presenting Hand-copied Bible From The Bottom of Our Heart

At ECH 70th Anniversary Thanksgiving Worship Service, we presented a thanksgiving offering to the Lord through a hand-copied Bible. This initiative encouraged us to transcribe the scriptures, expressing our deep desire for God’s truth. Through copying verses and drawing illustrations, our staff and children found peace, meditated on the Lord’s word, and drew closer to Him. A commemorative hand-copied Bible was presented as a gift to our Heavenly Father. This act of transcription also bore witness to God’s presence. One staff shared that he drew a passage from the year he was called to ministry, reawakening his calling. Another drew the passage that moved her to be baptised, strengthening her faith once more. Others received their favourite verses, leading to much reflection and gratitude among the staff.

"Let the Little Children Come to Me" & "Finding for the Lost Sheep"

Mr. Chau Yin Ming, Francis, Vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of Evangel Children’s Home, shared a scripture reading from the Gospel of Matthew concerning the treatment of children, which complemented Rev. Chan‘s sermon.

Whoever humbles himself like a little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. We should not look down on children but rather learn to turn and become like them, setting an example of humility. For woe to the one who causes a child to stumble!

For the Son of Man came to save the lost. If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, he will surely not leave the ninety-nine to search for the lost one. This is the mission that Evangel Children’s Home has always upheld.

"A Love That is Wholesome" - Testimony from Alumna Preacher Ma

A former resident of ECH, affectionately known as “Miss Ma,” grew up in an environment of love and affirmation and has now become a preacher. She is grateful that her calling began at Evangel Children’s Home, where she truly came to know God. Looking back at her life in ECH, she credits the boundless love and affirmation from the house parents and staff for shaping who she is today. It was the repeated invitations from her fellow children that brought her before God. During her first evening prayer session at ECH, she felt safe enough to honestly share her childhood experiences with her “family” there, something she had never dared to voice before. The children who comforted her, the house parents who embraced her, and the tears they shed for her that night showed her a love that comes from God.

ECH 70-Person Choir Praises the Lord

A 70-person choir and handbell team, composed of directors, children, alumni, current and former staff, united to sing to express their heartfelt gratitude for being part of this home. All glory belongs to God, for God is love! God is the most important and profound part of our home!.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for 70 Years

In the 1950s: We thank God for leading Miss Ruth Sundquist to Hong Kong to establish Evangel Children’s Home.

In the 1960s: We thank God for the many E.F.C.C. churches from overseas and Hong Kong that supported the gospel work of ECH.

In the 1970s: We thank God for the many house parents and older brothers and sisters from the church who loved us, helping us to grow continually in Christ.

In the 1980s: As Hong Kong’s economy took off, we thank the Lord for His abundant provision, praying, “May our home be better.”

In the 1990s: As Hong Kong returned to the motherland, O Lord, we thank You for allowing us to continue spreading Your love and “adding a little more love to this home.”

Entering the new millennium: We thank You, Lord! We love because You first loved us. May our home be full of faith, hope, and love, passed down from one generation to the next, “passing on the flame of love in our family”!

In 2026, our 70th Platinum Jubilee: We pray for the Lord’s guidance as we enter the AI era, embracing new times and new challenges!

May we carry on the spirit of selfless love, learned from Jesus Christ, as exemplified by our founder, Miss Ruth Sundquist. May we lead generation after generation of children to transform their lives and care for the lost sheep. May this home bear much fruit and nurture many more “Preacher Ma” to glorify our Lord and blessing people.
