《Set Sights on the Ideal Realm》-  Natalie

Natalie (alias) had to receive foster care services since birth as her mother was unsuitable to take care of her. The foster family lived peacefully until she entered the turbulent adolescence. Such dramatic changes finally resulted in the arrangement of her placement in a children’s residential home.

Emotional Roller Coaster

Natalie described herself as quite emotional. Before evaluation, her moods easily swing uncontrollably between extreme highs and lows. At times, she would yell at people and slam the doors. At other times, she would hide away and cry. She has no real friends in the children’s home or at school. Her relationships with others are fragile. Fortunately, she is naturally active and has won many awards both inside and outside of school, including basketball, soccer, and track and field. She also has a special talent for music, like playing the piano, acoustic guitar and drums. She is truly gifted.

Breaking Up with Foster Family

Owing to her personality flaws, Natalie was finally struck by a seemingly trivial matter – a careless rebuke that pierced deeply into her heart. In a moment of anger, she ran away from home. Her foster “parents” were left powerless. The only option was to arrange for a children’s home where it would be safer and more suitable. After all, they had cared for her over ten years since she was a child. The moment of separation was truly heartbreaking. Her “parents” could no longer hold back their tears. Despite all these helpless situations, they still welcome her “home” during holidays, adding much warmth to their lives!

From Disorientation to Reorganization

Poor in social skills and academic performances, pressure from all aspects gradually surfaced. Natalie found herself experiencing difficulty breathing, tremors and insomnia. The children’s home then introduced her to Project 3R* which is supported by the Community Chest of Hong Kong and provides comprehensive care for residential children and youth. After a period of assessment and counseling by 3R clinical psychologist, she was referred to 3R psychiatrist for medication, starting a two-pronged approach. Her mood stabilized significantly in the early stages of medication. She is aware such medication is indispensable to her. Therefore, she readily accepts 3R multidisciplinary treatments.

Everyone has unique strengths

Regarding career planning post-high school, Natalie sets sight on Applied Learning courses for practical skill trainings. Bridging to advanced diploma or bachelor’s degree and becoming a professional, thus carving out her own path. In fact, at every stage of life, a “starting line” can be set based on your own pace and abilities, leading you to your ideal destination!

*Right Care, Right Time and Right Team (3R) Project is jointly organized by Evangel Children’s Home, Precious Blood Children’s village and Sisters of the Good Shepherd, to provide comprehensive care plan for the admitted children.
